Wildlife information: How to care for injured and orphaned animals.
Orphan Native Animal Rear and Release Association was founded in 1983 by Helen Luckoff, a passionate wildlife enthusiast, who saw the need for a dedicated wildlife rescue group in the south-east corner of Queensland. Since then, we have grown into a thriving organization that has rescued, rehabilitated and released thousands of animals in need.
Our team of experienced wildlife carers are dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly to provide the highest level of care to every animal we receive. We work with local vets, the RSPCA, and Australia Zoo. We are committed to making a difference in the lives of animals in need. Wildlife rescue is important to save our native animals.
Our members ensure that they have the correct facilities for the wildlife animals that they raise, following the Code of Practice set out by the Qld Government. Our carers provide a safe and comfortable environment for animals in need. We provide the highest level of care to every animal that comes through our doors.
We are dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating injured and orphaned wildlife. Join us in our mission to protect and preserve our precious wildlife. Please contact us at admin@onarr.org.au for further wildlife information.
Please reach us at admin@onarr.org.au if you cannot find an answer to your question.
We raise a variety of wildlife including birds, mammals (including possums, gliders, phascogales, antechinus, wallabies and kangaroos) reptiles, flying foxes and amphibians.
Injured animals need vet care not wildlife carers. For an injured animal that needs rescuing, please call the RSPCA who have a dedicated service and wildlife ambulances. 1300 animal or 1300 264625. You can call our emergency hotline at 3030 2245 for a flying fox or for some advice.
Yes, we are always in need of wildlife carers, release sites, and support members are most welcome! If you would like to become a member, please contact us at admin@onarr.org.au and we will be able to give you advice on becoming a carer, a release site or a support member. The Qld Government states in the Code of Practice the size of aviaries/cages/pens needed for wildlife caring, which we follow. Support members and release sites pay our annual membership fee but are not wildlife carers. They receive our quarterly newsletter.
